It has a land area of 38,394 square kilometers (14,824 square miles) which is slightly larger than the U.S. state of Maryland. 70% of the land is covered with forests, while 7% percent is squashed beneath glaciers. In the dense forests of south and the coniferous forests of the north roam wide elephant, tigers, Himalayan bears, musk deer, blue mountain sheep, and the rare clouded leopards. Birds and butterflies abound in trees, festooned with orchids trailing moss.

With a population of half a million people, it is a beautiful country unlike any other in South Asia. This is the only country in the world where development is measured not by Gross National Product, but by Gross National Happiness.
